Mic headphone jack wiring. The basic design for this style of connector has roots in the design for a plug and jack set used with headsets. This headset plug design was in common usage in at least a couple of decades before the microphone plug came along. A variety of headphone plugs the headphone jack is a family of electrical connectors that are typically used for analog audio signals. This is because high end headphones will have 2 wires per channel equaling 4 wires.
It is also known by other names like phone jack audio jack aux input etc. For using a 3 5mm audio male jack for your projects or prototypes you have to solder wires with the pins of the jack. More connection leads to more wires and it becomes annoying sometimes. Now use multi strand wires to solder with the pins and then again cover it with the plastic casing.
Old headsets create a sense of annoying surroundings and they have two wires one for mic input and other for headset input. Remove the above plastic casing and you will see the pins of the jack as shown in the images above. Burn the resin off with some solder and tin the wires. At this point you should have 4 copper wires exposed.
This is so you can test the headphones with alligator clips to be sure you are connecting the wires correctly.
